Mobility Scheme

A schematic representation of the EMM-Nano programme’s mobility scheme is shown below. The programme accepts students from a broad background of disciplines (physics, electronics, biology, chemistry, materials science. In the first year all students study at the coordinating institution (KU Leuven), where they follow a set of introductory courses (max 12 ects) to give them a common starting basis, a common block of core courses (33 ects) and non-technical courses (9 ects), and already a profiling block of elective courses (6-18 ects) which prepares them for their second year specilisation. In the second year university the students select the specialization area and follow on one hand  a compulsory set of specializing courses (15 ects), combined with a set of elective broadening courses (15 ects), and do their master thesis research project (30 ects).

During the first year the students also spend about 1 week in spring (May) at one of the partners locations (Chalmers), on one hand to receive a practical cleanroom training, and on the other hand to participate to the masters common spring workshop , where all (first and second year) EMM-Nano students participate.

This EMM-Nano spring workshop is a common event of the master where all students in the programme are meeting with the teaching staff with the following puropose:

  • to give practical information to the first year students about the second year programme
  • to allow the second year students to present the results of their master thesis project
  • to obtain feedback from all the students on the quality of the programme and detect problems in order to take immediate corrective action, which is essential for the self-evaluation of the programme.
